I find that planning is absolutely crucial. It is a good idea to publish agenda, but only if it is possible to follow the schedule. I have recently attended a meeting that was meant to start at 10.00 am. And finish at 13.00. E-mail stated: arrive at 9.30 for coffee, 10.00am start. I was very annoyed that most people didn’t arrive until after 10.00 am, so organizers didn’t start until after 10.30 am. To add to it, the person with the projector and a laptop was late, so they had to adopt a slightly different strategy, but that meant that the entire schedule was turned upside down and meeting finished after 14.30. Due to other appointments some people had to leave, but I felt it was not polite to stand up on the middle of someone’s presentation, so I had to rearrange my day. I also think it is important that there is a leader of the meeting, who is in control.

This was a very good and informative episode ( my first) I have to suffer trhough many (many) ill prepared meetings and knew there was better ways to run them. Now I have some material to suggest changes that are more digestable than the ideas in "Death by meeting" the book. Thank you, I'm following thru sticher but I will go to iTunes to check
