One of my fellow GTAs who shared an office with me had a picture on his desk of him with his arm around the neck of a teenage boy. The first time I saw it, it was on the tip of my tongue to ask him about his son. Luckily, someone interrupted me, and I didn't get to say anything. I found out later that the picture on his desk was of him with his arm around the neck of his rather masculine-looking, short-haired wife. It was at this point that I learned never to assume.
